IL MANIFESTO
Longfellow’s beautiful poem, “The Legend Beautiful,” suggested the story told by “The Vision Beautiful.” The struggle between inclination and desire is fought out in the breast of a young monk, who is an artist and dreamer, having little sympathy for the menial tasks his vows entail. He is brought into close relations with the poorest and most miserable of the peasant class, and loathes the task of ministering to their wants. He experiences many hours of self-condemnation in his lonely cell, but sees the true light of his sacred calling, when a vision of “The Master” appears to him and shows that whatever kindly deed he does for the least and lowliest of his people is done for Him. The path of duty is clearly pointed out and the young monk cheerfully goes about his Master’s work.
La leggenda splendida di Pong Fellow ha suggerito la storia raccontata da “la splendida visione”. La lotta tra inclinazione e desiderio si combatte nel petto di un giovane monaco artista e sognatore che prova una certa simpatia per i compiti umili che i suoi voti comportano. Si sente portato a stretti rapporti con i più poveri e miserabili della classe contadina e sceglie il compito di provvedere ai loro bisogni. Vive molte ore di penitenza nella sua cella solitaria e vede la vera luce della sua sacra vocazione quando gli appare la visione del “Maestro”. Il “Maestro” mostra che qualsiasi buona azione venga fatta per gli ultimi e gli umili del suo popolo è fatta per Lui. La via del dovere è chiaramente indicata ed il giovane monaco si dedica allegramente al lavoro del suo Maestro.
